The Silence of the Myth – Pedal-Powered Emotions with an Electric Ciao
11 July 2025

There are experiences that defy logic but speak directly to the heart. Riding a Ciao Piaggio converted into an e-bike is one of them.

Those who lived through the years when the Ciao whizzed through the Italian streets know what we are talking about: it was more than a moped, it was freedom, youth, lightness. Today, thanks to the electric transformation, that myth not only lives again, but does so in a new, surprising, and silent form.

Let's take Florence, for example. Walking through the historic centre is already a fascinating experience, but doing it driving an electric Ciao, without noise, without effort, is another thing. You pedal slowly, lightly in Piazza della Signoria, you touch Piazza della Repubblica. You park in front of a bar for a coffee and observe the curious looks of passers-by. Some smile, others stop. Someone says: "I had an identical one, it was metallic green ... My father gave it to me when I was 16."

It is not uncommon that, while pedaling casually through the streets of the city, forgotten details emerge: a wooden door, an ancient shop, the light that filters between the buildings. The credit is also due to the medium: an electric Ciao does not only take you to one place, it takes you to a different mental state, in which everything slows down and is better enjoyed.

And then there is that feeling that is difficult to explain: that of knowing that you are driving a piece of history, which lay forgotten in a cellar or waiting to be scrapped. And instead he is here again, alive. Quiet, elegant, reliable. Non-polluting, without the need for a helmet or insurance, ready to ride along cycle paths, alleys, pedestrian streets.

Every time you get on the saddle, there is something more than mobility: there is an emotional, cultural, affective bond. And there is also a certain amount of pride, in knowing that the Italian history of two wheels can look to the future, thanks to the craftsmanship and visionary work of those who still believe in the beauty of recovery.

Because in the end, the Ciao transformed into an e-bike is not just a pedal-assisted bike. It is a gesture of love for memory, for the city, and for sustainability. It is the past that is set in motion again. Lightly, in silence. And with the smile of the viewer.
